Ronnie broke into the local racing scene in 1963 at the Dorney Park Speedway after completing a tour of duty with the US Marines. Ronnie and his father and whatever crew they could gather raced weekly at Dorney Park gaining experience as they went! From that point on his life has revolved around racing and he is more comfortable in a race car then anywhere else.
Versatile doesn’t begin to describe the talent and career Ronnie has had. He has raced almost everything with four wheels under it. Ronnie has driven in 12 different divisions of cars in all parts of the United States. Types of racing include late models, modifieds, midgets, sprints, silver crown and currently legends. Ronnie’s resume includes over 300 feature wins, and 24 championships.
In his 43 years of racing, Ronnie has not only experienced the thrill of victory but the agony of accidents, he has suffered broken bones and severe burns. These experiences have made him extremely safety conscious.
A highlight of Ronnie’s career was when A.J. Foyt hired him to drive his NASCAR hauler. As always Ronnie was there to give AJ needed advice. Their friendship still continues today.
Ronnie began racing legends cars in 1994 driving for Paul Weisel, the PA dealer for the Legend cars. In his first year he earned the Keystone Legend Car Series Championship.
In 2004 when the RMR Motorsports team of Ralph and Renie Rehrig decided to field a two car team, Ronnie was the first driver to be asked to chauffer the 7R. The move had Ronnie becoming teammates with Jason Rochelle, whose wife Tara, and Ronnie’s long time girlfriend, Glenna, are mother daughter.
At 62 years young Ronnie is still one of the fiercest drivers on the Legend Car circuit, his experience and knowledge led him to four feature wins and twenty three top five finishes in the 2005 season. He also captured the Susquehanna Speedway Park legends car championship for the second consecutive year. Ronnie’s consistency earned him the PA State INEX Pro division championship in 2005.
In December of 2005 Ronnie was recognized by The Checkered Flag Fan Club with the presentation of the Toby Tobias Sr. Memorial Award. The award recognizes indviduals that have the same qualities on and off the track as Toby did in his life. Ronnie felt extremly honored to be chosen.
In 2006 Ronnie will be moving from the Pro Division to the Masters Division for the INEX Legend Cars. Stay tuned as 2006 promises to be even more exciting!
Classic Ronnie Dunstan...
